Day 3; 28 days remaining
Total Word Count: 2732
Today’s goal: reach 5,000 words
Hellooooo everyone and welcome to day three of NaNoWriMo! As you can see I’m a bit behind but since I have a few hours before my first class starts I’m hoping to catch up and maybe, possibly (?) write some extra. I just recently hit a wall and don’t really know how to bridge one scene to another, but hopefully I can push past it.
Last night I went to another write-in and got a lot of words done there, probably around 800-1,000, and I got to talk to fellow NaNo-ers which is always fun! If you’re participating in NaNoWriMo and your region organizes write-ins I highly recommend that you go because it really helps. I find myself focusing a lot more when I’m surrounded by people who have the same goals as me and the word sprints are always fun, even though I usually have the lowest word count at the end of them. Earlier in the day I also participated in a twitter word sprint for the first time and it was an interesting experience since it was virtual, but still very helpful!
For today’s post I wanted to do the NaNoWriMo tag that I saw floating around YouTube, but I wasn’t happy with my answers for the questions since, honestly, I really can’t answer them all fully. However, I decided to just answer some common questions that participants are usually asked in general (:
1) What program are you using to write?
I am using the free, special trial of Scrivener that was designed for NaNoWriMo participants and so far I am really loving it! It is designed so you can create different folders and pages so you can flip back and forth which is perfect for me since I usually switch topics in my mind.
2) What type of music do you listen to while writing?
Usually I don’t listen to anything since I’m easily distracted and I’ll literally sit and do nothing while a song is playing because (a) I’m listening to the words and creating a story/music video in my mind or (b) I completely zone out and enter the deepest parts of my mind and will return several songs later very disoriented. However, I also don’t like to write in complete science so I usually sit in the food court or Starbucks so I’ll have some background noises.
3) What inspires you?
I’m usually inspired by movies, shows, music, and other books. What happens is that I’m listening (or watching) a story unwind and will ask myself a question about the plot and/or characters. If the question isn’t answered then I will try to figure it out myself and my imagination will run wild until I realize that I have completely deviated from the original story.
For this year’s story I was inspired by a strange combination of works: the audiobook and movie version of World War Z, the popular show The Walking Dead, the songs Dollhouse and Mad Hatter by Melanie Martinez, and the book Don’t Look Back by my favorite author Jennifer Armentrout. Like I said, it’s a strange combination but all of those works gave me an idea for my novel!
