Ana Talks: When Rick Riordan 'Quote Tweets' You

So almost a week ago I was sitting in my school’s Starbucks (like I am right now) drafting my guest diversity post for Read. Sleep. Repeat.‘s diversity month. While typing out my post I was trying to think of a book/book series that had a strong latina character, or just a strong non white character in general and all I could think of at that moment was Reyna and all the other characters in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus and Kane Chronicles series. I even referred to my sister and she drew a blank as well!

Really upset with this conclusion, I tweeted about it tagging Rick Riordan in the process:

Never in a million years did I think that he would see that tweet, let alone REPLY to it! So you can only imagine my surprise when I saw this:

ASDFGHJKL! I literally could not believe it, Rick Riordan not only saw my tweet but he answered me back! But wait- there’s more: HE WROTE AN ENTIRE BLOG POST INSPIRED BY WHAT I SAID! Think about it, Rick saw my tweet and it pushed him to write a post to help people like me trying to find a good, diverse book.

See the picture? See the first sentence?! I’M THAT BLOGGER! This was me for the rest of the night-

After the initial shock wore out I went through all the tweets that other readers sent me as well as read his post and found so many great books to add to my TBR. I also realized that I forgot about a few books like Cinder that definitely qualify as diverse! So thank you again Rick Riordan- for making my week and, most importantly, for making me aware of all the amazing books I have yet to discover.

P.S. Look out for RSR’s Diversity Month this October to learn about different people’s thoughts on diverse books as well exclusive interviews with authors!
