Review:

*This is another book I read in preparation of ARC August*

Fair warning- this review may be more of a ramble because I am absolutely obsessed with this book! I’ll be the first to admit that the cover is kinda cheesey (but cute) and the summary on the back is just ridiculous, but the actual book is genius. This is definitely a prime example of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’.

Where do I even start? I am a ex-Wattpad addict, almost two years ago I would obsessively pour over my tablet, literally devouring a Wattpad book a day. It’s the reason I got two C’s that semester! Anyways, I always felt that the stories on Wattpad (especially contemporaries!) read similarly and The Heartbreakers is no different. Reading this book took me back two years and reminded me of my love for Wattpad. I’m almost tempted to revisit the site and see if I can unearth any other jewels….but my TBR pile is ridiculous already.

As much as I hate it when stories are unrealistic, I made an exception for this book. I think Novak did a great job balancing the unrealistic scenes with very realistic moments. She also manages to distinguish her story from the hundreds that are just like it; I can’t even begin to tell you how many I-met-the-lead-singer-of-the-world’s-hottest-band- (which-I-hate-btw)-and-I-didn’t-even-recognize-him stories I’ve read! The book doesn’t just solely focus on the romance but actually emphasizes on friendship and family as well.

After thinking about it for awhile, I think the main reason I adore the book so much is because of how much Stella’s character develops. She never gets big headed because she’s friends with The Heartbreakers, in fact her friendship with the boys helps her realize what she really wants to do in life as well as overcoming her fear and guilt.

Overall it was a cute and fun read that often had me smiling or laughing out loud. I really recommend this book to everyone who loves a cutesy contemporary that is a perfect summer read.
