I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this on my blog before, but I am completely and utterly in love with BookTube.
For those of you who don’t know what BookTube is, well, it’s basically a community of book lovers on YouTube. They post videos of book hauls, tags, reviews, wrap-ups, and so much more! You should definitely check it out (:
The other day I was watching Kat from Katytastic latest video and she was doing a original Halloween-esque tag that she cleverly named the Creatures of the Night Book Tag! Basically there is a list of ten creatures and you have to pick a book you love that features that creature. If you want to watch the original video click here! It seemed like a really fun tag so I decided to do it…..even though it was originally a YouTube tag.
While you guys read what books I choose here’s some background music (that matches the title of this tag)
Music? Check! Now here are my choices for the Creatures of the Night Tag (:
For this creature I decided to go with one of the first vampire books I’ve ever read, which is called Vampirates! This series is about twins Connor and Grace. In the first book, a storm separates them as they try to run away from their town after their dad dies. Connor finds himself rescued by a notorious pirate ship, while Grace finds herself on board a mysterious ship with even more mysterious people. VAMPIRATES (which are vampire pirates, how cool is that)! I LOVED this series *coughs nervously* but I never read the last book. I know, I need to read it, but I can’t find it anywhere- but one day I will!
This may be weird, but my favorite werewolves are the werewolves from the Twilight saga. This may be due to the fact that I have not read many books with werewolves in them. I like how the pack in Twilight truly care about one another and the people they are protecting. My favorite parts of the saga were when the pack was together and were joking around, like the bonfire scene!
Well this is embarrassing…I’ve NEVER read a book with zombies in it. But, I’ll substitute this category with my favorite movie with zombies which is World War Z! It’s also a book, but I’ve never read it. I am absolutely obsessed with this movie, the story line was realistic, the characters reacted as expected and the world was ‘science’ behind the zombies made sense.
I haven’t read too many ghost books, but I’m obsessed with Mary: The Summoning…this counts right? In case you missed my last post, where I review and discuss the book with the author, this book is about Bloody Mary. She’s terrifying, she controls mirrors and water, and she can kill you. That qualifies as a ghost in my book. I definitely recommend it if you like being so scared that you stay up all night and refuse to look at your reflection ever again.
Obviously Harry Potter wins this a million times over, but like Kat, I’m going to select another book because I want to expose you guys to great books that don’t get much attention. I chose The Hunter’s Companion by Lori Powell. This book is very unique! I don’t want to give to much away, but it’s about an English girl who moves to a new town to help her ill great aunt. However, this isn’t your typical town, with mysterious fogs, diaries, and an American boy- Regan realizes that there may be more to this town than she thought. I loved this book because it was the first book I’ve read where witches are the bad guys. If you read one book on this list it MUST be this one.
When I was in middle school (around the time I was reading the Vampirates series!) I was absolutely obsessed with a book series called The Faerie Path series. It was about a 17 year old girl who lives in our world, one night her boyfriend takes her out for her birthday and tells her that he has to tell her something very important. She thinks that he’s going to confess his love to her when all of the sudden they get into an accident. When she wakes up at the hospital she sees a man who beckons her to follow. All of a sudden she’s transported to a different realm where she is a lost faerie princess! This series was amazing, it was full of mythical creatures, love, hate, revenge, war, and heartbreak. I’m not sure if it’s YA or middle grade, but I think people ages 12 and up will enjoy this series!
This was an obvious choice for me- The Whispers of the Fallen by J.D. Netto has the BEST demons. I don’t want to give to much away because I believe this is a great book to dive into blind, but I will say that this book is dark, very bloody, and has some of the most terrifying but wondrous creatures. It’s another spooky read that’s perfect for Halloween!
I’m copying Kat with this category because I cannot think of any other angel books that I love. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. I don’t know how, but the author has an almost poetic way of writing that keeps you entranced and the story is just….perfect. My description of this book is not doing it any justice so just go read it, like right now.
I’m going to have to pick the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout because Daemon Black. That is all you need to know- oh and that he’s mine, you need to know that too.
Last category, woohoo! For superpowered human I am choosing Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, even though Percy is technically only half human…but who cares about technicalities! If you haven’t heard of Percy Jackson, you need to reevaluate your life. Kidding! But this series is about a 12 year old boy who discovers that he is a demigod, which means you have one human parent and one godly parent. This series is hilarious and action packed, the best combination!
Well hope you enjoyed this tag! I’m going to pass the torch to Amber and Jessica from The Book Bratz, Stefani from Caught Read Handed, Dana from DanaSquare, Nicole and Sophia from Quality Fangirls, and Jaclyn from QuotableBooks1. Good luck guys, can’t wait to see what you choose!
